Ex-Jackson socialite Karen Irby, whose sentence was commuted by one governor inis now seeking a pardon from another for her culpable negligence manslaughter conviction. Irby was sentenced to 18 years in prison in for causing the crash in that killed Dr.
Lisa Dedousis and her fiance, Dr. Mark Pogue. Haley Barbour commuted the sentence of Irby, who now goes by Karen Collins, to three years of house arrest when he granted her and others clemency before he left office.
He ordered that she serve three years on house arrest, plus two years under the supervision of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Collins, who was released from house arrest in Januaryhas begun running the required newspaper legal notice of her plan to seek a pardon.
The year-old virgin
In the classified section of the Clarion Ledger, the day legal notice, as required by state law, was set to end Monday. The notice says: "My current, legal name is Karen Louise Collins. I am intending to apply for an executive pardon. Applicants for an executive pardon must post notice in a newspaper in the county of conviction 30 days prior to making an application to the governor.
The Parole Board will normally require letters of recommendation from the community and family, and a statement of unusual circumstances. However, under Mississippi's Constitution, the ultimate decision-maker on a pardon request is the governor. It's unlikely that a pardon will be received from outgoing Gov. Phil Bryant. Earlier this month in the case of a former doctor seeking a pardon, Bryant's office sent her the following the response:.
He has made the decision that he is not going to grant any pardons during his term as Governor. I am sorry.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green sentenced Irby on May 11,after her guilty plea to two counts of culpable negligence manslaughter. Irby's speeding Mercedes sedan crashed into their truck, according to court records. Authorities said Irby was traveling at least 70 mph in a 40 mph zone and her blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. Irby would later say that her then-husband, businessman Stuart M. Irby Sr. The Irbys divorced while she was in prison. Authorities said Stuart Irby, who suffered a brain injury in the crash, took his own life in January Records from the Jackson Country Club where Irby and her husband had dinner showed she had two glasses of wine.
Pogue and Dodousis died in the Feb. They were pronounced dead at the scene. In an interview with the Clarion Ledger inIrby said she was drinking and driving, but wasn't drunk the night she crashed her vehicle into a pickup killing two doctors.
